The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is designed to meet the needs of Japanese language students who wish to test their skill level against the worldwide criteria. In this way, it is hoped the JLPT will stimulate interest in furthering Japanese studies.

Examinees who require special testing accommodations for disabilities must complete their applications by 31 March 2026.
Fees:
The fees for each level are as follows (currency = NZ$):
N1: $110.00, N2: $110.00, N3: $95.00, N4: $95.00, N5: $95.00
The test fee is non-refundable and the test date and site cannot be changed.
*Examinees who wish to have their test result sent overseas must pay an additional postage/courier fee. The postage/courier fee will be asked for when the result is sent.
Applications:
Each examinee can take ONE LEVEL only on the test day.
Any person wishing to enrol for the test should forward a completed application form (two identical photographs are required).

Please include a postage paid self-addressed envelope for the return of your voucher and timetable.• Examinees are allowed to take one level only on the test day.
• Print out all 5 pages of the form on single-sided A4 paper and sign by hand.
• Glue 2 identical passport-sized photos, not photocopies, to the test vouchers.
• Application forms will not be accepted by email.
• The test fee is non-refundable and the test date and site cannot be changed. If the test date is cancelled by our office, the test fee will be refunded.
• For questions 7, 10-14 please refer to test guide.
• The Examinee Registration Number will be filled out by IPU New Zealand.
• Application forms can also be picked up at IPU New Zealand, or sent by post if you supply an A4 stamped self-addressed envelope.Please note that the use of mobile phones, smartwatches and other devices during the JLPT, including during break periods, will be strictly prohibited.
Please be aware that simply touching your mobile phone during the break will be considered a violation of the test regulations.
We kindly ask you to make any necessary arrangements in advance, such as coordinating with the person picking you up, to avoid any issues on the test day.
